Overview of the types of copper wire

The copper conductor consists of a single copper wire or a number of copper wires, which are described as follows:


Hard copper wire: Through the extension of cold processing, with a high tensile strength, applicable to overhead transmission lines, distribution line and construction line conductor.

Soft copper wire: Hard copper wire heating to remove the residual stress produced by the cooling process, is rich in softness and bending, and has a higher conductivity, used to manufacture communications and power cable conductors, electrical machinery and a variety of electrical appliances of the wire.


Semi-hard copper wire: The tensile strength between the hard copper wire and soft copper wire, used for overhead lines and the wiring of the radio.

Tinned copper wire: tin plating on copper wire surface to increase weldability and protect copper conductor from corrosion during extrusion of PVC or rubber insulation, and to prevent aging of rubber insulation.


Copper Wire: The section is a square or rectangular copper wire, for the manufacture of large transformers or large motors and other induction coil materials.


Oxygen-free copper wire: oxygen content under 0.001%, the purity of the special high copper wire, the content of Cu in more than 99.99%, will not be subjected to oxygen embrittlement, used for the production of vacuum tube wire, semiconductor parts wire and very thin lines.


Enameled wire: After softening the copper wire, the surface is coated with insulating varnish, which is usually divided into natural resin and synthetic resin enameled wire by heating and baking.

Copper Wire: A conductor with a flat and extremely thin copper wire winding on a filament.

After the first strand: the copper wire is stranded, then aluminized.


Copper clad steel: Generally used for the transmission of the coaxial signal (such as television and VCD connection, outdoor TV antennas, CCTV and so on, the higher tensile strength of the hard line, in the Alpine zone, across the river and so long to be used as overhead lines, according to its copper thickness, the general conductivity of 21%, 30%, 40% and so on.


Alloy copper: Consisting of copper and other conductor metals, such as copper and nickel alloys, for special purpose lines.


At present, the main conductors commonly used are as follows:

Tinned copper wire, English abbreviation for TC;

Bare copper wire, English abbreviation for BC;

Silver-plated copper wire, English abbreviation for SC;

Silver-plated copper clad steel, English abbreviation for SCCS

Copper clad steel, English abbreviation for CP.
