What is the difference between the HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 1.4?
Nov 27, 2018

HDMI Forum Inc. has announced that the HDMI 2.0 standard specification has been finalized and released, greatly enhanced the support for 4K ultra HD transmission, and improved on multiple video and audio technologies. HDMI 1.4 can already support 4 K, why still launch HDMI 2.0, what is the difference between them, the next detailed analysis wl tell you the answer.

1. HDMI 2.0 does not define new data lines and connectors, the interface, so it can perfectly maintain HDMI 1.4, The existing two types of data lines can be used directly.

2.The HDMI version 2.0 standard has been developed and launched, greatly enhanced the 4K ultra HD transmission support, and multiple video, audio technology has been improved.

3.HDMI 1.4 can support 4 K, but is constrained by bandwidth, the highest can only reach resolution ratio 3840×2160 and 30FPS frame rate. HDMI 2.0 will extend bandwidth to 18Gbps, can support resolution 3840X2160 and 50FPS, 60FPS frame rate. It also supports up to 32 channels in audio and the highest 1536kHz sampling rate.

Other major improvements:

1.simultaneous transmission of dual video streams to multiple users on the same screen

2.simultaneous transmission of multiple audio streams to up to four users

3.support for 21:9 widescreen display.

4.video and audio streaming dynamic synchronization

5.CEC expansion can better control consumer electronics through a single point of control

Overall: HDMI 2.0 does not define new data lines and connectors and interfaces, so it can maintain the perfect backward compatibility of HDMI 1.x and the existing two types of data lines can be used directly. As to whether the current equipment can be upgraded to HDMI 2.0, there is no such trend, the need for manufacturers to update hardware, firmware.

HDMI 2.0 does not replace HDMI 1.x, but is based on the latter enhancements, and any device that wants to support HDMI 2.0 must first guarantee a basic support for HDMI 1.x.
